Uni Watch Power Rankings: The Best Yellow Uniforms
A definitive ranking of yellow uniforms (even though teams usually call them gold).
In March of last year, on the cusp of St. Patrick’s Day and with spring fast approaching, I took a look at the all-time best green uniforms. Last autumn, with the leaves changing colors, I turned my attention to the all-time best orange uniforms. And now, with summer almost upon us, I’ve decided to turn my attention to the color that’s most evocative of summer sunshine: yellow.
The funny thing, of course, is that few teams will even admit to wearing yellow. They’ll more often say that they wear gold. This is somewhat understandable — gold, after all, is the color of wealth and luxury, while yellow is the color of cowardice and jaundice. But let’s get real: Gold is what the 49ers, Saints, and Golden Knights wear. Teams like the Steelers, A’s, and Packers may say they wear gold (or maize, or sol, or whatever), but come on — it’s really just yellow.
And there’s nothing wrong with that, because yellow works really well on a wide variety of uniforms, 20 excellent examples of which are compiled on the list that follows. In order to qualify for that list, yellow had to be the uniform’s primary non-white color (which among other things resulted in several white-over-yellow football combos making the list).

20. Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavs have had several yellow uniforms over the years, but my favorite is this one, which was their home design from 1974 through 1980. I’m apparently not the only one who’s fond of it, because the team revived it as a throwback in 2004-05 and again in 2015-16.
